Lucien Cailliet was a French-American composer and arranger born in 1891. He started composing music at a young age and went on to study at the Paris Conservatory. He moved to the United States in 1912 and joined the U.S. Marine Band as a clarinetist.
In addition to his work with the Marine Band, Cailliet also arranged and composed music for films, television shows, and musicals. He worked on the scores for films like "Gone with the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz".
Cailliet also made a significant contribution to the field of concert band music. He arranged and adapted many well-known pieces of classical music for wind band, making them more accessible to a wider audience. He also composed his own works for concert band, including the popular "American Folk Rhapsody No. 1".
Lucien Cailliet died in 1985 in Fairfax, Virginia, at the age of 94.
